Americanize Your Home flag set, 1942
NMAH Armed Forces History Collection

During World War II, as in other times of crisis, displaying the flag was a way to demonstrate support for the nation. Americanize Your Home flag sets, sold by The Flag in Every Home Committee, included an American flag and a gilded-eagle clamp with mounting instructions. Packaged with the words of the Pledge of Allegiance and the American’s Creed, the flag kits advanced the patriotic messages represented by the flag.

The committee encouraged Americans to fly the flag from homes, public buildings, schools, and at public gatherings, believing this would “increase the respect for our Flag and the democratic institutions for which it stands.”
