Schuyler, George Samuel, 1895-1977

 

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, George Schuyler served in the United States Army. He was promoted to first lieutenant in 1912. During his army years he wrote for the Service, a weekly newspaper for members of the military. He left the army in 1918 and pursued a career as a writer and news correspondent. He worked for the Pittsburgh Courier and wrote articles for The Nation, Reader’s Digest, and the Negro Digest. Schuyler edited the New York edition of the Courier from 1944 to 1960.
