This 1907 ten-dollar gold piece has a very distinctive, raised edge, a “fin” in Mint parlance. The fin comes from metal which is forced up in the die during the striking process.

When Saint-Gaudens designed this coin, he re-introduced a long-used ‘Indian head’ convention, but created an expression and energy not previously found in this style.
