A previous owner, hoping to clean this coin, probably treated it with chemicals that left a residue. A corrosive reaction could create these discolorations although the present toning has been acquired over many years.

 

b.
The class three dollar's reverse design is slightly different from the class one. The spacing of the clouds and lettering above is a little wider.
