It is almost possible to read the entire story contained in the newsprint used to repair this torn note. "I have the pleasure to inform … an update on war strategy in the Caribbean."

Thread was used to attach the newsprint to the note. From this side the stitches are obvious.

Museums used to record object numbers on the item in question to track it. This practice has been replaced by methods that protect the object and eliminate the need for writing on the surface.
