Thanksgiving Dinner. Summer barbeques. Grandma’s spaghetti sauce. Food is a shared human experience that instantly connects us with our personal, family, and national memories. And our choices with food will shape our shared future. Everybody eats!

Through programs, research, and collections, the American Food History Project at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History is creating a national community of history lovers who are exploring their shared past by tasting it. By learning more about the foods of the past, today’s museum visitors will understand the role they play, individually and collectively, in shaping the future of food.
