General History

The United States Army M2 mortar consists of three parts. The tube, the bipod, and the baseplate. The mortar fired three types of rounds. They fire a high explosive round, a smoke round, and an illumination round. Mortars are designed as close support weapons for infantryman. This standard for the Army and Marine Corps was based on a French design from the Brandt company.
