Specific History

This sturdy leather helmet design was modified from football helmets designed by the Wilson Athletic Goods Company.

General History

The closed environment found inside a combat tank created the need for a protective helmet that was not as large or heavy as standard steel helmets but would still provide protection for the crewman, largely from bumping his head inside the tank.
