This wooden model represents a design for a screw propeller. Found in the Smithsonian's collections in 1979 and presumed to be from the first half of the twentieth century, the model's origins remain unknown. Raised letters on one of its two blades say "Pat appli'd for," but its patent number and date have not been found.

Physical Description

This propeller pattern is made of black painted wood. About one inch of the tip of one blade is missing; about three inches from the corresponding tip of the other blade are also missing. The model is 22 inches across.
