Pete's Postcards — Hitchhiking

Hitching a ride in a Cadillac
Not a part of the official Smithsonian Collection

During the summer of 1948 Pete Koltnow spent several weeks hitchhiking and riding buses across the country, taking photographs along the way. The quality of rides varied considerably, but every now and then he caught a ride in a car that made him proud, such as this "Cadillac Bus," which took him from Vandalia, Illinois, to Oklahoma City.
