	CTA Car 6719, On the Move


	At about 3 a.m. on January 7, 2003, CTA car 6719 began its final trip—from the Washington, D.C. city limits to its place in history at the National Museum of American History.


	Unwrapping CTA transit car 6719, January 7, 2003 6719 was brought to the Museum on a trailer by Silk Road Transport, a specialized transit hauler. Oversize-load restrictions meant that the car had to travel over city streets between midnight and 6 a.m. Under the cover of darkness, 6719 arrived at the Museum, and its protective shrink-wrapping was removed.

	CTA car 6719 is raised to the upper level of the Transportation Hall, January 7, 2003 Moving 6719 into the Museum was a lengthy process, about 7 hours from the time the car rolled onto the Museum grounds to when it was set in place.


	CTA car 6719 is set in place at NMAH, January 7, 2003 Car 6719 is placed in its permanent home.


	A re-creation of the CTA’s historic Madison and Wabash Loop “L” station has been constructed around the car, and a complex audiovisual program has been installed in and around it, allowing exhibition visitors to take a virtual trip around Chicago’s elevated transit line in 1959.
