Stars-and-stripes tattoos
Description: These three red, white, and blue crystal temporary tattoos in patriotic motifs (flag, heart, and abstract designs) were made by Swarovski of Austria.

Context: Temporary colorful tattoos in decorative designs have been popular for the last few years for evening wear. To appeal to the younger clientele who used them, Swarovski packaged these in compact disc cases, with the instructions for application and removal on a cardboard "CD." Although this set of patriotic tattoos was not made specifically in response to September 11, they were included in a spread on patriotic and commemorative jewelry in the spring 2002 Nordstrom catalog.
