New York necklace
Description: This craft necklace with its four pendantsóa graphic of the American flag, a graphic of the Statue of Liberty, a silver star, and a clear glass cabochonówas made by Wells Jenkins of New York City and sold through The Museum Company.

Context: The style of the necklace is reminiscent of chains with "dog tags" used as a form of military identification. The use of the graphic of the Statue of Liberty relates specifically to New York City. The designer, a former architect who lives in New York, is known for designs incorporating American symbols. Although this necklace might be seen as just a patriotic necklace produced at any time, the literature accompanying the necklace stated that ten percent of the sales would be donated to the American Red Cross.
