Description: This collection of material documents the memorial Concert for America held in Washington, DC on September 9, 2002. Context: As the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks approached, many groups around the country searched for ways to remember and honor those who were touched by the terrorists' attacks. In Washington, DC a musical and theatrical concert was presented at the Kennedy Center on September 9, 2002 and televised two days later. Performers at the concert included Placido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Aretha Franklin, and many other luminaries. In his on-stage remarks President Bush said, "Today we mourn the lost, honor the living and celebrate the character of our country and the creativity of our people."
