Messages of support
Description: These cards and letters were sent to rescue workers, fire departments, and police officers offering thanks for their help and efforts at the crash site of United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Context: Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, children and adults from across the country felt a strong desire to be involved and show support for the rescue personnel at the three crash sites. Children from a northern Pennsylvania school and Girl Scout troops from outer Pittsburgh sent letters and cards of encouragement to the rescue workers at the crash site of United Flight 93. The warm notes were comforting to fire crews, police officers, FBI agents, and rescue workers who were often working long hours away from their families.
