Americans Side by Side poster
This lithograph of the Twin Towers, printed in red and blue, was distributed to rescue and recovery workers in New York City. Context:
Frustrated by their inability to help with the recovery efforts immediately after the attacks of September 11, Suka & Friends Design of New York turned to what they could contribute—designing a poster. They created a graphic tribute that was distributed to firehouses, police precincts, Red Cross stations, and other locations throughout the city.
This poster’s use of words to form the twin towers offers a strong connection to the National Museum of American History’s large collection of type and our interest in typography and printing. The design uses type effectively, and the message contained in the words is both moving and appropriate. Both elements, design and content, work together to make a dynamic graphic statement.
