"...suggested endurance of our nation..."
I think there’s no question that a number of the objects that are in our exhibition and will be held in our collections permanently could be defined as relics. I have no problem with the notion of relics in the national museum of history. I think relics have always been another way that tangible objects suggest broader meaning. I think it makes people realize the depth of their emotional attachment to events that they have no other way of capturing besides seeing something that experienced those events. A suggested endurance of our nation, that's exactly what the relics of 9/11 suggest. And certainly at this point suggest our commitment to that endurance.
