"Preservation for posterity, whose uses we can't even, or ought to imagine"
The most important function of the collection is preservation, in and of itself--the fundamental purpose of the museum. Preservation for posterity, whose uses we can't even, or ought to imagine. It could be a grandchild of one of the deceased who will come here one day in her wheelchair to see what her great grandfather went through. That will justify everything we've done, with one visit.
