"This was really a process of negotiation..."
To collect these objects we really had to be part detective, part diplomat, but always willing to listen with respect to these treasured and painful recollections. But we always had to accept our curatorial role and responsibility. And this was really a process of negotiation, sometimes protracted negotiation. It was all about networking and persistence, and really building trust with individuals who had suffered a great tragedy, both personal as well as national tragedy.
