Surveyor's Compass

Catalogue number:
PH*336705

Inscriptions:
“W. & S. JONES 30 Holborn London”

Dimensions:
length 11.75 inches; needle 4 inches

Discussion:

This compass, with a face reading clockwise, reflects a British rather than an American design, and in Britain it would have been referred to as a “circumferentor.” W. & S. Jones were in business in London from 1791 to 1859, and at the 30 Holborn address from 1800 to 1859.
