About Personal Portraits

More than 60,000 individuals and groups sat for portraits before the Scurlock cameras. Among them were international celebrities, national heroes, local notables, and – in greatest number – ordinary Washington citizens. The portraits are marked by technical skill, aesthetic merit, and respect for the sitters.

Use the links at the left to view our album of select portraits, to browse a much larger selection of these images, or to do a focused search of the Scurlock Studio portraits.

The Studio also kept a notable subjects file, in the form of an address book. Browse the pages of the address book, or review the list of notables listed.
