PROJECT: SPEECH ANALYSIS/SYNTHESIS SURVEY TAPE (1967)

Prepared and distributed human speech source tape for testing
various speech processing techniques. Tape prepared by Caldwell
Smith, AFCRL. Tape was sent to requesting companies for use with
their speech processing equipment. The resulting tapes were sent
to AFCRL for inclusion in the Speech Analysis/Synthesis Survey
Tape that was presented to the 1967 Conference on Speech
Communication & Processing, MIT, November 6-8, 1967 (see SSSHP 81
tape.)

1967 SSSHP 80 Tape: "SCP MASTER #942, IBM T67.1". All human
          speech, three speakers, 19 min.
(head alignment and level calibration tones)

(human, 3 var, 39 sen: "He took a walk every morning.
          ... You forgot my book.")

(human, 3 var, 51 words: "One. Two. Three. Four.
          ... International. Immediately. (speaker's name)")

(human, 3 var, 16-sen: "His remarks are too dense.
... Hand me the blue teapot.")

          (frequency response calibration)
7" reel, 7.5 ips, good quality, IBM's copy of master

SSSHP 81 Tape: "SPEECH ANALYSIS/SYNTHESIS DEMONSTRATION, COPY
NO. 2-9, T67.2". Vocoders and speech synthesis. Only
speech synthesis is transcribed. Total time 22:45 min.

(81.6b, Royal Inst. of Tech., OVE-III, 9 sen: "Did you
extinguish the fire? Measure ... We gave you three
          books.")

(81.6c, IBM France 2400 bps Vocoder, male English:
"Today is Tuesday, November 7. One, two, three, four,
five, six.", female English: "One, two, three, four,
five, six.", female French sen: " ... ")

(81.6d, IBM USA Diphone Synthesis, 7 sen: "The number
you dialed, ... consult your directory and dial again.")

(81.7a, BTL Synthesis by Rule, L.R. Rabiner, 17 sen:

          extraordinarily resistant to ... phonetic description.";
19 sen: "He took a walk every morning. ... We've
          changed the measures.")

PROJECT: SOUGHS - SOCIETY OF USERS, GLACE-HOLMES SYNTHESIZER
         (1969 - 1972)

Volunteer effort by Mr. Weiant Wathen-Dunn to help coordinate
the sharing of information and control data among the users of
the Glace-Holmes speech synthesizer, made available by the
National Security Agency to promote scientific work in this
field. (See SSSHP USA National Security Agency file for
technical details of the synthesizer.)

1969 List of 24 synthesizer owners, 8 interested parties, and
6 methods of attaching the synthesizer to a computer.
