Description:

Black crepe; bodice front and back beaded in spiral tendril design; sweetheart neckline in front; short cap sleeves with additional beading; inset red crepe waistband that gives appearance of cummerbund; falling sash of red crepe hangs down center front of skirt; metal zipper and hooks on left side for closure; slightly padded shoulders; dress unlined except at waistband inset where lined with red rayon.

Background:

The donor wore this dress to her high school senior ball in Port Angeles, Washington. She had purchased it at "The Smart Shop," a local store, for about $20. It was exhibited in Suiting Everyone: The Democratization of Clothing in America from 1974 to 1979.
