Description:

Light weight brown velvet; cowl neck at bodice front; center front seam in bodice front; waistband inset, pointed at front and straight in back; bodice front gathered at each side at waistband inset; bodice back cut in one piece; 5 radiating darts at back neck to control fullness; long set-in sleeves; velvet portion of sleeve extends to near elbow, with lower portion of sleeve made of white lace; wrist opening closed with metal snaps; skirt has center front seam; skirt extends into back at sides; back cut in one piece; foldover hems throughout; thread belt loops (belt missing)

Background:

This dress was worn by Mary Marr Armstrong in Washington, D. C. It was exhibited in the "Hall of American Costume" from 1964 to 1973.
