Original construction:
granite tower attached to keeper's house; deactivated between 1859 and 1870

Rebuilds:
1891: present 38-foot conical wooden tower

Status:
Automated in 1951; active aid to navigation, now on Naval installation grounds

Light characteristic:
flashing red with 2 white sectors, visible for 7 nautical miles
