Original construction:
current 45-foot cast-iron-clad conical brick tower

Rebuilds:
1860: erosion caused tower to lean 2 feet from vertical, repaired after the Civil War by removing underlying soil from opposite side of tower

Status:
electrified in 1929; private aid to navigation

Light characteristic:
occulting white every 4 seconds
