Latitude: 40 deg 37 min 57 sec N
Longitude: 73 deg 13 min 7 sec W
Height above sea level: 167 feet

Original construction:
74-foot octagonal bluestone tower

Rebuilds:
1858: current 168-foot cylindrical brick tower, black and white horizontally banded, black at top
1912: cracks repaired by reinforcing bands around tower
1955: tower refaced
1983 -1986: restoration completed under direction of Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society

Status:
deactivated 1974 - 1986; automated in 1986; active aid to navigation

Light characteristic:
flashing every 7.5 seconds, visible for 24 nautical miles
