Tamaya
Tozaemon Tamaya opened a shop in Tokyo in 1675 and began selling lenses for eyeglasses. The firm became a partnership in 1901, during the Meiji era. Tamaya Shoten, as it was then known, was the first Japanese company to import surveying instruments from overseas, and the first to manufacture surveying and navigational instruments. It produced its first sextant in 1922. The firm is today known as Tamaya Technics.
