Telescope

Catalogue number:
1980.0399.0073

Inscriptions:
"PERRY MASON & Co. BOSTON"

Dimensions:
aperture 1.825 inches; length 11 to 36 inches

Discussion:
Perry Mason & Co. was the publisher of The Youth’s Companion, the most popular and successful family journal in the U.S. in the second half of the nineteenth century. This telescope was probably a premium given for a subscription to that magazine. It has an achromatic objective, a four-element erecting eyepiece, and a five-section brass draw tube covered with leather.
