Telescope

Catalogue number:
PH*314890

Inscriptions:
"BLUNT / LONDON"

Dimensions:
aperture 1 inch; length 25 to 32 inches

Discussion:
This telescope was made around 1800. It has an achromatic objective, a four-element erecting eye piece, and an octagonal wooden tube that tapers slightly from the objective lens to the eye piece. The signature probably refers to Thomas Blunt, an instrument maker who worked with Edward Nairne for many years before going into business on his own in 1794.
