"Simex STAR FINDER AND IDENTIFIER / FORMERLY USN HO
2102-D / Coast Navigation School / SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA"
diameter 8.5 inches
Like the Rude star finder, the Simex has a white plastic planisphere with the northern sky on one side and the southern on the other; nine clear plastic altitude-azimuth templates for use at different latitudes up to 85o north and south; a clear plastic meridian angle template; an instruction card; and a cardboard envelope. Captain Sven T. Simonsen, a commander of Army Transportation Corps vessels during World War II, established the Coast Navigation School in the post-war period, and marketed Simex instruments.
