Bubble Sextant

Catalogue number:
AF*59065-N

Discussion:
Edgar J. Lesher, an assistant professor of aeronautical engineering at Texas A&M University, sent an example of his "new low-priced" aircraft sextant to P. V. H. Weems in early 1939. Although Lesher did not have a patent on the form, he was sure that Weems and Edwin Link would treat him fairly. When Weems gave this sextant to the Smithsonian, he noted that the Lesher design was the forerunner of the Link bubble sextant.
