"U.S. ARMY AIR CORPS / SEXTANT (BUBBLE) / TYPE A-11 SERIAL AC41-209 / ORDER NO. W 535 AC-1752 / MFR’S DRAWING NO. 11530 / LINK AVIATION DEVICES / BINGHAMTON, N.Y. U.S.A."

Discussion:
The A-11 is a rugged, reliable, and ergonomic single-shot bubble sextant designed for student use, and produced for the Army Air Corps in preparation for America’s entry into World War II. This example was the 209th unit made in 1941. Edwin Link and his colleagues at Link Aviation Devices developed the form using ideas suggested by Edgar J. Lesher, an assistant professor of aeronautical engineering at Texas A&M University. The A-11 was quickly succeeded by the A-12, a multi-shot instrument equipped with a median device.
