Discussion:
This is an 8 day chronometer that dates from the period 1815-1835. It has an early Earnshaw spring detent escapement, and indications for hours, minutes, seconds, and up and down. The U.S. Navy Bureau of Ships transferred it to the Smithsonian in 1953. Brockbank & Atkins began in business in 1815, and was trading as Brockbank, Atkins & Son in 1835.
