Nancy Araki was four years old in 1942. Her family was first assigned to Granda, the War Relocation Center camp at Amache, Colorado, then moved to Provo, Utah, as part of the work-release program. After a series of unpleasant incidents, including an attack on their home by a local vigilante group, the Arakis asked to be readmitted to the War Relocation Authority system and were reassigned to the Topaz, Utah, camp. Today Mrs. Araki lives in Los Angeles and is the project director of the Japanese American National Museum.
