TITLE
Plan of plantation house for Japanese laborers

DESCRIPTION
Plan of plantation house for Japanese laborers

24 feet x 18 feet, divided into two rooms of 12 feet x 12 feet, and a verandah of 6 feet x 24 feet. Drawings indicated ethnic groups as well: labeled "Japanese" and "Philipinos."

CONTEXT
Note the difference in house plans for Japanese and Philipino workers. The Japanese cultural need for privacy can be seen in the separate bedrooms outlined in the plan for Japanese workers, versus the shared room in the housing for Philipino workers.
