Color Guard, 442nd Regimental Combat Team
Color Guard

Original caption: "Two color guards and color bearers of the Japanese American 442nd Combat Team, stand at attention, while their citations are read. They are standing on ground in the Bruyeres area, France, where many of their comrades fell."
The following quote was found on the back of the above photograph. No citation accompanied the words:

"On seeing only 500 men (out of the usual regimental complement of 4,500), General Dalquist demanded, "Where are the rest of the men?" With tears streaming down his cheek, Colonel Virgil S. Miller replied, "Sir, this is all that's left."
