Pin comemmorating attack sites
Description: This tie tack, in the shape of a pentagon with an image of the World Trade Center, was manufactured by R&N Jewelers of Margate, Florida, and was sold through the internet. Context: Jewelry made to commemorate the September 11 terrorist attacks falls into two categories—general patriotic motifs and those directly related to the sites of the attacks. This tie tack subtly combines images of both the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. It also includes the date of the attack and the words, “United We Stand,” to express national solidarity. The manufacturer, which specializes in small jewelry items to be used as organizational fundraisers, named the pin “America United.” A member of the public sent the pin to a museum staff member as a thank-you gift.
