Rise Above poster
Description: The design of this poster, titled Rise Above, evokes the composition of the American flag with solid sections of color: the Twin Towers in white rise into a field of blue framed by the red outline of New York City.

Context: Karen Simon designed this poster in response to the events of September 11. It provides a symbolic way of representing the tragedy and its impact on the city, in a crisp and compelling design.

Her lithograph was intended as a statement of pride and support, and it was installed as a donated billboard at the New Jersey entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel in November 2001. She also produced the design in several sizes and formats for wide distribution, and it is being considered for a postage stamp.
