Catalogue number:
PH*319793.2

Inscriptions:
"Bate London"

Dimensions:
telescope 12 inches; level vial 5.5 inches

Discussion:
This is a somewhat unusual instrument. It has a micrometer screw at one end, to be used for fine adjustment, and its telescope has the same diameter from one end to the other. The signature refers to Robert Brettell Bate, who was active during the first half of the 19th century.
